Boerger rotary lobe positive displacement pump supplied for fish oil transfer on board deep sea trawler

A custom-built Boerger model AL 50 rotary lobe pump was supplied by Pump Systems to a major New Zealand fishing company for transferring fish oil on board a deep sea trawler. Made in Germany and ideal for gentle, pulsation-free conveying of viscous, solids-laden and shear-sensitive fluids, Boerger rotary lobe positive displacement pumps are extremely versatile and are available in a wide range of special configurations.

Due to space constraints on the vessel, this particular pump was designed for vertical installation and was supplied with a 2.2kW, 4-pole speed geared motor operating at 650 rpm. As standard, Boerger pumps are fitted with silicon carbide faced mechanical seals with separate lubrication and carbon steel shafts (not in contact with the pumped media). An intermediate chamber with quench fluid protects the mechanical seals and rotor/shaft connection while also protecting the gears against penetration of the pumped media.

Four Vaughan chopper pumps supplied to Mt Martha STP for tough digester sludge recirculation

Pump Systems Ltd's local Vaughan Representative in Melbourne, Australia - Metaval Consolidated Pty Ltd, completed a project at South East Water's Mt Martha STP for the supply of four new Vaughan vertical dry pedestal chopper pumps for digester sludge. The Vaughan equipment was sized to replace existing macerators and PD pumps that were high in maintenance becuase of ongoing clogging issues.

The four model PE3P6 pumps were shipped directly to Australia ex-Vaughan Company in the United States. As rag and fibrous material was a known issue at the plant, each pump was fitted with an 18.5kW, 4-pole speed electric motor to provide plenty of chopper power and torque in case of heavy solids loadings. Each pump was also supplied with Vaughan's proprietory designed "flushless" mechanical cartridge seal. The extremely robust and reliable Vaughan seal, which was introduced in 2001 has its own oil chamber, eliminating the need for an external water flushing system.

Vaughan chopper pumps are designed to withstand the toughest applications and are guaranteed not to clog. External adjuster screws behind the pump casing allows the operator to monitor internal cutting clearances in order to maintain premium chopping performance. In addition, by practicing routine maintenance and keeping these clearances as close to factory settings as possible, the wear process inside the pump can effectively be "delayed", saving on spare parts turnover and regular running costs.

Vaughan Chopper Pumps solve clarifier underflow clogging problems at large paper mill in New South Wales

Two heavy-duty horizontal Vaughan Chopper Pumps were supplied to a large paper mill in New South Wales, Australia for transferring thick clarifier underflow sludge. The plant was experiencing continual clogging problems with its existing dry-mounted submersible pumps and required a proven and engineered long term solution that would allow the on site wastewater treatment plant to function with minimal downtime.

The two Vaughan model HE4P6CS centrifugal chopper pumps, one duty and one standby, were sized to provide a flow rate of 72 m3/hr each at a Total Head of 7 metres. Fitted with 11kW, 6-pole speed electric motors, the pumps run slowly at around 960 rpm which will help to reduce wear over time. In addition to this, all main components including the chopping impeller, cutter bar, upper cutter and cutter nut are heat treated to a minimum Rockwell 60C hardness for wear and impact resistance. Any suspended solids in the waste stream such as wood chips and fibrous materials are broken down and preconditioned at the pump to eliminate the risk of clogging in system pipework and downstream processes.
